Our Approach to the Curriculum
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework in Nursery and Reception, and the National Curriculum through Key Stage 1. Our curriculum is built on play, talk and early reading, giving every child the confident start that everything else is built on.

Reading at the Heart
Reading begins with daily phonics and grows through shared stories, rhymes and books children choose for themselves — so that reading is something they want to do, not something they are made to do.
Enrichment & Wider Learning
We actively support the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of every pupil through our values-based approach to PSHE and wider curriculum.

Every day at Boldmere Infants is purposeful, ambitious and full of learning opportunities:
Morning Welcome & Phonics
The day begins with a calm, settled start, then daily phonics in small groups — the single most important thing we do for early reading.
Learning Through Play and Talk
Mornings mix taught sessions in English and maths with purposeful play, indoors and out, where children practise what they have learnt and put it into their own words.
Story, Reflection and Home Time
Every day ends with a story and time to reflect on what went well — sending children home with something to talk about.

What curriculum do you follow?
In Nursery and Reception we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. In Years 1 and 2 we follow the National Curriculum for Key Stage 1, tailored to the needs of our children.
How do you teach reading and writing?
Reading begins with daily systematic phonics from Nursery, alongside stories, rhymes and songs. As children become confident decoders we move into guided reading and whole-class texts. Writing grows out of talk and story, so that children have something to say before they are asked to write it.
How do you prepare children for the move to the Junior School?
Our curriculum is sequenced so that by the end of Year 2 children have the reading, writing and number skills the Junior School builds on. The two schools share a site and a governing body, and our transition programme includes visits, shared events and time with the Year 3 team.
How do you support children who need extra help?
We assess children regularly and provide targeted support and intervention wherever it is needed, so no child is left behind. Our SEND provision is recognised as a real strength of the school, and our Boldmere Resource Base offers specialist support for children with additional needs.
