How we spend the pupil premium and the difference it makes.
What the Pupil Premium Grant is
Each year the school receives allocated funding from the government known as the Pupil Premium Grant. The Secretary of State for Education lays down the terms and conditions on which assistance is given in relation to the pupil premium grant (PPG). The PPG provides funding for two policies:
Raising attainment
Raising the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities to reach their potential.
Supporting service families
Supporting children and young people with parents in the regular armed forces.
The rates for 2025–2026
Per pupil, per year, for those who are eligible.
How it can be spent
It will be the decision of the school on how this funding is used. The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) states that the PPG can be spent in the following ways:
- for the purposes of the school, that is for the educational benefit of pupils registered at that school
- for the benefit of pupils registered at other maintained schools or academies
- on community facilities; for example, services whose provision furthers any charitable purposes for the benefit of pupils at the school or their families, or people who live or work in the locality in which the school is situated
At Boldmere we use the PPG to benefit the pupils not just academically but also to enrich the pupils to promote self-esteem and well-being. Our strategy statements below set out what we spend it on and the difference it makes.
How we are held to account
The Government believes that head teachers and school leaders should decide how to use the Pupil Premium. They are held accountable for the decisions they make through:
- the performance tables which show the performance of disadvantaged pupils compared with their peers
- the Ofsted inspection framework, under which inspectors focus on the attainment of pupil groups, in particular those who attract the Pupil Premium
- the reports for parents that schools now have to publish online
